UK Wine Walks: The Mount Vineyard, Kent

The Mount Vineyard is a vineyard and tasting room in the pretty village of Shoreham in Kent. Eight different grape varieties are grown and made into still and sparkling white, rosé and red wines at their off-site winery.

Hiking to The Mount Vineyard

I love combining wine with a hike, so below are links to two hiking options which will take you into Shoreham for a visit to the Mount Vineyard. Access to the vineyard is just off the main street in the village and very easy to get to on foot. The starting point for both walks below is Otford station. The first goes on to Eynsford via Lullingstone Park, and the second returns to Otford.

Dining options at The Mount Vineyard

The restaurant at The Mount Vineyard has a cleverly adjustable retractable roof and there is outside seating both opposite the main restaurant by the pond and amongst the vines themselves, so there is plenty of choice for dining and wine tasting in any weather. I can recommend their stone-baked pizzas.

What to drink at The Mount Vineyard

Flint Key, a crisp dry white blend of Bacchus and Siegerrebe with elderflower and citrus notes.

Sparkling Red, a blend of Rondo, Regent and Pinot Noir, aged for three and a half years before release.

Sparkling Rosé, Pinot Noir, Seyval Blanc and Phoenix, also aged for three and a half years before release.

The Mount Vineyard tours and tastings

Tastings take place Thursday to Sunday year round, with tours of the vineyard included with tastings in the summer months. Tastings are also available by appointment. For up to date information contact the vineyard on 01959 524008.

The Mount Vineyard location and transport

Shoreham train station is a 10 minute walk from the The Mount Vineyard. Trains from London Victoria to Otford take 35 minutes, or 50 minutes to Shoreham, changing at Bromley South. A taxi from Sevenoaks would take around 15 minutes.
